I have the Skydemon installed on a Dell XT2 XFR tablet pc.

Last week I was on a tour from Denmark to Germany, Poland, Sweden and back again.

Generally the software is so nice I forget to look at the maps.

I noted the following:

1) In a hotel where there was free wifi the pc connected to the internet. I then started Skydemon, but it crashed with errors several times. I discovered that the free internet required me to open my browser and click yes to the terms. After this all programs had unlimited internet access and the skydemon did not crash again.

2) When flying it is often nice to pan the map to a location further enroute. Is there any possibility to stop or delay the unit to automatically return to the actual position. I found that often when I was studying the airspace ahead the unit returned and I had to pan back again.

3) If you pan to a point and hover with the mouse you will get a box with airspace info. If the map automatically pans back to the aircraft position the box will stay for a while on the same place on the screen hovering over the wrong map area.

4) I still carry Navbox because the database is more detailed. Skydemon is a much better software but I hope the database will grow fast so we can get more countries, and more details. It is nice to click on an airfield and have phone numbers for example.

5) The notam service is very nice but it is not yet implemented for all countries.

6) Suggestion: Internet in the aircraft is not easy, but I often get sms. Would it be possible to setup an extra service where I could plan my route in Skydemon and set the departure time. Your server could then every ½hour send an SMS with the metar/taf enroute.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll address your points individually.

1. If there is no internet connection, SkyDemon's attempts to download live data obviously don't work. These errors are reported in a special messages window, which is not a crash. For the moment we can't think of a better way of displaying the fact that live data download has not succeeded.

2. I think the delay is 15 seconds, but you're quite right that in the Plan product there's no way to actually turn off chart following altogether (and turn it back on when needed). We'll address this in the next build.

3. Good point; we will look at this in a future version.

4. Our database is in most ways more detailed that Navbox's, allowing our charts and warnings to be much cleverer. If you can point out a specific area in which we should have more detail, though, that's always appreciated. We should have phone numbers for airfields in the fully-supported countries.

5. This will be rolled out gradually.

6. Unfortunately we have no plans to integrate with SMS services right now. Great idea though!

Thanks for the answer.

Regarding the error it was no onjly the message in the box.  It was a proper crash. A window came up and said that the program made an uexpected error. A window showed the software code. I could then choose to ignore or end the program.

I did not copy the error text.

Hi Tim

Some hotels with WIFI have a system in place whereby any HTTP traffic is grabbed and redirected to another home page which is where you activate your wireless connection rental.

I am guessing that the redirect causes your program to crash when the HTTP data back is different to what is expected.

You might need to send back a header string which can be checked from the program and if that header string is not returned the data should be assumed to be corrupt/redirected and discarded.

I hope this makes sense

Regards
